    • The dog as a companion

Both the role and the image of dogs in our society have changed almost fundamentally in the past few decades. Man’s best friend is gaining ever-increasing importance as a social and domestic partner. However, one thing must be borne in mind from the outset: a dog – however flexible and adaptable it may be – is and remains a dog. It has its own self and by its nature does not “operate” and “speak” like a human.

Dog and owner need to develop this mutual understanding between each other and master the balancing act between tolerance and authority together. On the one hand, the dog has a right to be itself and have its own needs. On the other hand, the owner is responsible for helping his four-legged friend to settle into a rapidly changing world, adapting accordingly and accepting the limits imposed on it.
